Hello.
There is a problem with big stop_areas with several railway stations, like with r4248647 after your change. Now, there is an ambiguity in determining which stop_position relates to which station. Thus, when you follow a route=subway and occur at some stop_position, you cannot say at which railway=station you are.
This is resolved by adhering the "no more than one railway station in a stop_area" rule and gathering stop_areas into a stop_area_group at interchange stations. All metro systems in the world are mapped this way. Have you equally strong reasoning to have big stop_areas with several stations?Best regards,

Hello.
Thanks for the comment and clear explanation. What I am unsure about, is what is the criterion to decide whether we have one or several stations. I would be inclined to consider that there is a single station here as all stops have the same name (as opposed to Gare du Nord and Magenta which are closeby), however there seems to be 2 different uic_ref, one for each operator (RATP and SNCF). I'd rather have a single railway=station with a multiple uic_ref value here : what do you think about that ?

I've merged the 3 railway station nodes into one : https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/119393198. Let me know if you spot something wrong.

Hi osmers!
Carto'Cité, thanks for the detailed response.
I've been monitored rapid transit all around the word for several years and I can say there is no a common way to map interchange stations: sometimes only one station is created, sometimes two (or more) with the same or different names. To me, any method is acceptable while routing on a subway system is possible. I think several stations are justified if they have different names or other properties, or if they are clearly separated in space. In any case, I'm convinced that a proper set of stop_areas should be created to reflect an "interchange" nature of a large station, and, of course, to satisfy "stop_position-to-station" determinacy.
Please look at https://cdn.organicmaps.app/subway/france.html to ensure there are no logical errors. Notice validation time at the bottom.Best,

Thanks for the reminder on Subway Validator : this tool is extremely useful.
I've just added railway=station which I missed yesterday (I used the 'wrong' account ;). I've also dropped public_transport=station, which is on the closed way that defines the extent of the station (https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/1024948856). The wiki says it can be defined on a node (x)or on a closed way, however iD users keep putting it back... Does that matter for your tools ?
Regards,
Antoine.
