I don't suppose you took a photo of the amended sign?
Did it say who had given permission?
Did the paths at the Northern end have similar notices?
Could you amend the tag to this:

Sadly I didn't take a photo. It's a reasonable printed white sign but clearly not conforming to any 'official' standard sign. Same notice at each end. Gate open at golf club end, I think it was an openable 'four bar' metal gate at the north end. I have a feeling the track alongside the golf course was marked as a permissive bridleway/footpath too, but not with the same sign. I don't recall there being any indication who owned the signs or had given permission which is unfortunate. Amended tags and fixed routing which I didn't get quite right on my phone.
