The M1 is a priority street with a 70km/h speed limit. Going south-east from the bridge over the A99 highway there is no room for pedestrians or cyclists; no bike path, no sidewalk, not even an unofficial path next to the road.

No official path does not mean bike=no. In effect, most of the countryside road do not have a bike path along - however you can drive there.
best regards
Wolfgang, traveling by bike (also along this route)

You're right; I was very surprised to get routed over this road while cycling, as it doesn't seem suitable for most cyclists and wondered how to fix that. But I agree the map should be objective, and I see you already corrected it; I will suggest my favorite GPS app (maps.me) to offer an option to exclude such routes from bike routing.

Hello,
you may consider brouter - it includes a setup for 'fast bike, however prefer low traffic roads'.
