Would be great if we could get some more GPS traces of the new alignment. Looks like there is only one complete one through this section. More traces might make the realignment more obvious... assuming people are actually checking against GPS traces and not just blindly mapping imagery.
I think they're blindly mapping imagery. I've redone this section twice now and it appears from the logs that somebody also fixed it at least once.
That was my first try with "notes". I was *hoping" for something that would show up as a red flag in the web-based map editors to try and give people pause. But I see that's not how it works.
Not sure if this will help, but I found in my collection several GPS traces traversing the new roadway, and I've loaded them in.
There's new imagery now if anyone wants to redo it.
In Potlatch 2, I see recent imagery for the “Mapbox Satellite” background, and then only if not zoomed in too closely. All other imagery looks old. The mapping is currently correct. My note was intended to warn away others who might change the paths, erroneously, to match the old imagery. I’m still not sure of the ideal way to do that. Is this issue discussed anywhere in the Wiki?
I don't think there is really a good way to do this :( You could also add a note tag or something to the ways but those are also pretty unlikely to be seen.
JOSM now has notes functionality built in so JOSM users are slightly more likely to see this note but iD and potlatch have no plans to add note support...
Oh thanks didn't notice, just checked the mapbox imagery now. Looks great. Anyway of deleting the old gps traces?
It looks like imagery is all pretty much good here and the highway unlikely to be moved back - can we close the note now?
yes
