Hey Amos. That is interesting. I remember getting the 'official' name from here:

and I have also seen 'Sluice Road' on a few planning applications. But you're right - locally it is more known as Sluice Lane and we should probably lean towards what can be found by survey. I'd be happy either way.
I noticed it in passing. I don't think there's a sign on the Herband Walk end. I've done some trawling on the web, and the pattern seems to be that it's referred to formally as Sluice Lane on the Pevensey side and Sluice Road on the Cooden side as it meets Herbrand Walk. But I can't find anything definitive. The other pattern is that, as you say, locals use "Lane" almost exclusively (I've never heard "Road" spoken).
I think you're on to something! The road changes name on the Bexhill boundary. I'll have a go at fixing it up. Cheers.
