When I've started contributing Crete OSM (some years ago, JOSM) I have seen lots of name: with Greec letters, name:en with English letters, name:ru with Russian letters, name:de and others common laguages. I'm agree with any concept, just choose most popular, so now continuing this kind of naming and think that this tagging system have minimum conflicts with others and easy recognisible in software necessaires (bots, renders or file conversion with language filtering-adoptation).
