About

(Todo — I suck at these)

Pet Projects

I currently focus my efforts to these various areas on OpenStreetMap below. As with anything on OSM, I by no means consider myself to be in complete control of these areas and encourage others to contribute.

SPARK*

Background

SPARK* is a Community Interest Company providing various units to small independent businesses giving them an initial platform to kickstart, with the goal of them eventually being able to move into a larger premises for themselves once a stable customer-base and cash-flow has been constructed The area itself is an outdoor venue, built up of old shipping containers fabricated as units for businesses and providing a central communal area for seating. Co-working and event spaces are also available.

TIER (York)

Background

TIER operates an e-scooter/e-bike rental scheme in the city of York, which I myself currently work for. York is a unique area as it is a strict parking zone and vehicles are not “free-floating”: there are many parking spots across the city to park vehicles.

Apart from using Mapbox (powered by OSM) in their mobile apps, TIER does not seem interested at all in utilizing OSM: I myself use this service and see benefit in parking spots being included on the map. However, I will admit the current implementation of “small electric vehicles” is a tad janky.

Unfortunately, due to various external factors, TIER has made the decision to shut down the service in York by 31st May 2024.

Tasks
  • Keeping active parking spots — known as “spots” or “DOPs” (Drop-Off Points) — up-to-date
  • Setting vehicle capacity on spots that have strict requirements
    • For example, Tower Street has a max capacity of 15 vehicles
  • Setting removed spots as disused: when they are abandoned but markings are still visible on the ground
    • Spots that aren’t marked will be deleted entirely when they are abandoned
    • As mentioned above, all spots will either be disused or removed by 31st May 2024
