Tagging

Posted by Elwell on 23 July 2010 in English.

Been thinking about non-OSM tags recently while playing with flickr.

Some thoughts about amenity=post_box turned into an idea to tag flickr with
ukpostbox:id=REF_NUM see http://blog.elwell.org.uk/2010/07/m-m-m-metadata.html

following on from this, as I'm interested in AIS (Ship identification) I also propose to tag ship pictures in flickr with

ship:mmsi=..... or ship:imo=.....
(ship:name=... is to prone to duplicates, just look at http://www.itu.int/online/mms/mars/ship_search.sh and say search with ship name of 'victory'

TomTom FAIL

Posted by Elwell on 27 April 2009 in English.

So, yestreday I did a road trip round Rural france, with the planned side effect of expanding the coverage. Sadly my freshly installed 'Event Logger' locked up the tomtom and post hard reboot only had a small fraction of the 600 miles I did. Oh, and that fraction won't even open in josm (not well formed) -- Hopefully the latter is just beacuse of a missing /trkseg /trk /gpx combo

CERN

Posted by Elwell on 6 February 2009 in English.

OK - So I started looking around Work on OSM and discovered that some of the buildings are mapped, as well as the main rings (SPS and LHC). Sadly the level of detail is 'intermittent'.

2 choices
* Walk round site with camera / GPS and get all the building details
* email the people in Patrimony and Site Information to see if we can get an extract of the data.

What I'd really like to do is explore relations here (pseudocode follows)
Generate a 'primary relation' called CERN and add all the sites to it -- Meyrin (main), Prevessin, the access points and the rings.

Then within say the CERN->Meyrin site I'd have all the entrances, buildings, roads etc.

Does this sound like the right way to do it?

I'm reluctant to start messing too much as there's already relation #27705 covering some of the site.

So, I've now moved from Glasgow to Switzerland - tis sunnier but the hills are bigger. Plan A is to get Arzier mapped fully, however I've only got one wee trail mapped so far while I took dogs for walk. In the meantime I've added a few labels to the some of the buildings at work (CERN)
