Mapper Presentation

Hi there ! I’m Léonie, a Participatory Mapping Project Officer at CartONG, a Non-Governmental Organization specialized in Information Management whose mission is to put data – in particular geographical data – at the service of humanitarian, development and social action projects. I’m also a geographer trained in environmental management. I’ve been mapping on OSM since August 2019 as part of the Missing Maps initiative : a humanitarian project that preemptively maps parts of the world that are vulnerable to natural disasters, conflicts, and disease epidemics. It was founded in November 2014 by the American Red Cross, British Red Cross, Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, and Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders.

CartONG & Missing Maps

CartONG has been part of this initiative since 2015. Within this frame, we manage collaborative mapping projects for both humanitarian and development organizations. Our participatory mapping team facilitate in-person (mainly in France) as well as online mapathons.
We see these collaborative mapping workshops as an opportunity to :
- promote the use of OSM and OpenData,
- train new contributors,
- and strengthen our volunteer team of expert mappers to ensure the quality of our mapping projects on OSM.
We also encourage CartONG’s partners to use and contribute to OSM by, for example, providing trainings on OSM-based mobile data collection tools.
