I have a question:

How would one find the R, G, B color values for the roads in OSM?

I'm currently trying to import the road shapefiles from CloudMade into my radar program, GR2Analyst, and I am having someone make a .sty file for me. He needs to know what colors I want the roads to show up as, and in order for him to make the roads as they would be in OSM, I need to know the exact values for them!

Thanks!!

New imagery?

Posted by Mink on 25 July 2010 in English.

Okay, first of all, when I map on Openstreetmap, I solely use Potlatch and work off of the satellite imagery provided by Yahoo. I do not mess with uploading GPS traces or anything. Also, when I map on OSM, it's almost always in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul Metro area in Minnesota, USA. This is mainly because of the fact that I grew up there, and spent most of my life there, so I am really familiar with the area.

But right now I currently live in the Peoria, Illinois area. I would love to start working on the Peoria area, and start tidying up the freeways and streets, but I cannot due to the poor satellite image quality. It seems that Yahoo does not have high-resolution imagery for the area, but Google and Bing do.

Last September, I thought I remembered seeing something about OSM getting a license agreement with Google, so that we could use their satellite imagery in Potlatch. This would be great, and would open up a lot of opportunities for editing in Potlatch.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about this, or if Google/OSM decided against this decision. All I know is that it would make things a lot easier for me, as well as thousands of others, if we had better imagery to work with in Potlatch.

Please let me know!! Thanks!

OSM Ringtone

Posted by Mink on 7 December 2009 in English.

I have been searching the web for the sound clip that plays when you have successfully uploaded data to OSM via Potlatch (The WHOOOP sound). I would really like to have this sound for whenever I receive text messages to my phone. Does anyone have a good-quality and loud sound clip of this? Please let me know, otherwise I'll have to record it on my computer somehow. Thanks!

Minneapolis Work

Posted by Mink on 23 November 2009 in English.

Ever since I joined OSM back in July, I've done a lot of work in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro area. My main area of work consists of countless interstate interchanges and exits. I've traced the lanes of half the length of Highway 100, all of Hwy 169, parts of Interstate 494, I-35 W and E, and Interstate 394. I like tackling a large interchage, such as the I-394 and Hwy 100 interchage, and making it look nice. I've also traced several lakes in the Metro area. I mainly chose to work on this part of the world because this is where I grew up, and as a young kid I would study maps of the area. Today, while mapping on OSM, I can learn even more about the roads of Minneapolis than I do already. Mapping makes me feel warm inside.
