I try mostly to name all the streets and add as many amenities (such as public WiFi, small restaurants and other less known items) in the three countries I am found more frequently: Angola, Zambia and Namibia. It is well known that there is very little mapping done down in Africa (for comparison, New York alone has more data than all African countries combined). This is a very concerning issue, as tourism (and other industries that rely on maps) gets affected by lack of proper maps and information in general.

If you’re interested in my changesets, consider the following;

When I add features which aren’t so relevant to be mentioned (such as straightening a line, copying one or two houses, adding a tree here and there, basically everything that doesn’t impact the database in a visible manner), even if it’s a hundred of them at once, my log will read “Minor changes”; I however commit to the OSM community that I WILL properly log and mark all my major modifications, like adding a new university or shopping mall, change tags on roads and locations.

After I see that most primary mapping is gaining shape, I’ll focus on metadata such as house numbers and more in-depth elements. This can take a few years to achieve.

If you have any question related to Africa mapping, please PM me, and I’ll answer as soon as I see it.
