Nobody is stopping you to fix it by yourself.

Imagine that after month of hard work you fix them and then some other guy starts to yell at you, that you did not fix another one ;)

Try to use JOSM. For beginners it's hard, but after some time it's perfect.

Best solution is GPS traces + pictures + wms. Using only wms you can't know where is gate, shop or some patch covered by trees.

If you just change name and did not change any shapes, then this place is not scheduled to update.
