Classification of Queensland Roads

Tasmania uses the A, B, C classification on most of its roads and signage

This is why Google/Apple maps will always be ahead; any company that relies on OSM for navigation will never catch up

Sure - google is always right….

Plenty of cases where “official data” can be “wrong” for some issue. Most of us working with data on a regular basis will see errors, omissions, changes that needs correction. Getting that back to the supplier can be easy or hard.

OSM has its own set of rules re roads and your poor application of those rules has been pointed out to you many times. Its not a like for like situation as you have been told multiple times. Just learn the OSM rules.

Here is a Google challenge for you - get rid of all these ‘lakes’ in Tasmania that dont exist. The data comes from an official source and they have been on the map for years! https://www.google.com/maps/@-42.56185,146.3420661,15z?entry=ttu

Call for ideas from Microsoft

Many thanks for asking the community!

For me, it would be great if ID in edit mode supported easier identification of actual or missing addresses somehow. I know there have been multiple attempts in the past but none have eventuated, I feel this would encourage editors to fill in gaps or add more addresses. Even if only at level 19/20 it would still be very useful.

Other than that I am sure there are lots of other issues that users have contributed over time. I suspect priorities will be the hardest to identify.

Maybe just answer his questions. They are a very regular mapper in South Australia

`osm-river-basins`: Website to show how are rivers in OSM connected

Nice work - the colour coding makes it dead easy to pick up the missing links in a waterway.

Be warned….its addictive. It pays to step away from the computer occasionally… and take a walk with “Street Complete” or Every Door” app :-)

Using Gamification to Increase the Use of Footpaths/ Rights of Way, and to Enhance and Validate OSM Data

Given how crowded some walks have become “the path less travelled” sounds appealing to me and also serves a purpose to keep tracks/paths/trails open.

I am not sure they are rendered in the standard OSM map.

A Guide Towards A Successful Mapathon

Don’t forget your validators. Having some ready to go immediately the mapathon starts can really help to guide new mappers and get on top of common mapping errors like non square buildings, overlapping or joined buildings or common tagging errors.

Using suburb boundaries to align imagery & data in Burnie, Australia

Great work - such a pity that Burnie didn’t get a recent update of BING imagery like Hobart and Launceston as that would have made your work a lot easier!

Australia/New Zealand Maps for Garmin - address search problem

There is a bit of a thread re searching addresses on Garmin here

https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?249732-Address-search-on-OSM-maps

Different people create different renderings of the OSM maps and it may be the download that you have does not have search capabilities.

Of course, the search also relies on the address information actually being in OSM and for many places in Australia there may be no addresses entered. This may change soon as the government has released all Australian addresses via Open Data and someone may take up the challenge to add several million of them to OSM!

National Missing Maps mapathon

You are quite correct Joost, I am located in Tasmania, Australia. Whilst I may have completed the most squares, many were devoid of buildings as they were the tiles in the water! The credit deserves to go to your new mappers. I was amazed at how fast the tiles were completed.
