Mapping NCN61

Posted by wormwood on 8 January 2008 in English.

Trying to extend the National Cycle Route 61 from St Albans via Hatfield towards WGC. Unfortunately, soon after entering Hatfield to begin the new mapping, I managed to lose the route with the result that I spent 20 mins randomly cycling through Hatfield trying to pick it up again. Managed to find it again for a short while, then lost it. While trying to pick it up for the 2rd time, I found part of NCN 12 so contented myself with extending it southwards. All this cycling my be good for my health, but bad for the OSM cycle map :(

Footpaths

Posted by wormwood on 5 November 2007 in English.

I have been trying to take advantage of the good weather we've been having in the UK to log some footpaths. Unfortunately, the farmers around here don't seem to be too keen on re-instating the footpaths after the fields have been ploughed and I've had to alter my plans for at least 3 logging journeys.

Rather than trudge 300m in a direction only roughly indicated by a waymarker (and of course I don't rely on the OS map to give a bearing!!), I think I might wait until more knowledgeable locals show the way.

Frustrations in Cyprus

Posted by wormwood on 7 September 2007 in English.

Just come back from a holiday in Cyprus and wanted to gather some GPS tracks. A cursory look at the map before I went showed a rather patchy network of roads, so I was confident of expanding the coverage there.

Unfortunately, an inability to recharge my GPSSlim240 receiver and reliance on tour coaches for transport severely limited the opportunities to gather data. Although I haven't gone through all my tracks yet, it looks as though they basically echo info that's already in the database :(

Ahh well. There's always next year...
