What was the source of the change of (for example) "landuse=churchyard" to "landuse=religious" in http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/242868714/history ? Did you survey it and find that it was _not_ a churchyard?

landuse=religious + religion=christian is internationally better understood than churchyard.
We also use amenity=PoW and not amenity=church.

So you didn't actually survey any of these?

As documented in the source tag of the CS, they were surveyed on aerial imagery, the 14 landuse=religious among 121 residential features, mostly residential buildings.
Aerial image survey is a well-accepted style of mapping.

The changeset comment doesn't say anything about religious, only residential.
If someone's surveyed a place and thinks that it is best tagged as landuse=churchyard then it is NOT an "accepted style of mapping" for someone to change that based on aerial imagery, simply based on discussions on the tagging list. We map what we see and what we know; the strength of Openstreetmap is its local mappers.

Right, the CS comment should have then said 88.5% residential and 11.5% religious refinements. Which percentage of mappers leaves no comment at all?
On the issue, I was messaging local mappers based on your personal comment last summer, and all but one agreed and welcomed it as a fix; only one didn't and changed it back.
