Hi Arun - are you sure that https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/329032015 is really an unclassified road? It doesn't particularly look like one from the imagery. What I suspect it is is a farm track with a "public right of way" over it (given that someone's named in "leeds country way"). My guess is that highway=track is correct, and the access rights are at the very least "foot=yes; designation=public_footpath" (but that'd need to be verified by survey or by talking to someone local). Given that it is part of https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/5012105 , I suspect that the name of this road isn't "leeds country way" either. The best locals to talk to are probably the first mapper of this object (this looks like one of the first things they mapped in OSM after they joined - they've done lots more since) or chippy, who's from Leeds, and mapped the bit just to the west.

The section leads only to the Airport service road apart from the couple of properties and the footpath branching out. There are no ways that branch into farms to suggest this is primarily for agricultural use.
Have been trying to understand UK roads better and would really appreciate to know why you would say track is more suitable than service or unclassified for this segment.

First dont rely on the wiki "tracks are for agricultural use". This may be applicable in Germany. In Britain I suspect we will use track or service for any non-public ways which vehicles can be seen to traverse. Most indeed will be for agricultural purposes (including things like Pheasant & Grouse shoots), but many will just provide rough & ready access to whatever facility people are using. For instance many railway lines will have access tracks used by maintenance crews. Also be aware that UK farms are large and often have fields well away from any farmyards.

This should be an unpaved service road, no?

Personally, I'd map railway access tracks as "highway=track" as for example at http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/30010081 , but obviously it depends on what they look like - some are more like service roads, and there are lots that are just footpaths. Here it's difficult to tell from just the imagery. I guessed highway=track mostly because that's what it was originally mapped as by "barb-andmike" - from the imagery it could just as easily be a highway=service. Given that it only goes to a house and some stuff likely connected with the airport, it's likely not an unclassified road. As a walker what I'd be most interested in of course would be the general access rights there (public footpath, bridleway, whatever) - but that's not viisble from imagery.

Ok this seems a little at odds with how i'm understanding highway tags, that they primarily define function of a way in the road network, otherwise most unpaved roads in developing countries would end up being tagged as tracks.
If tracks in UK don't follow the wiki guidelines of being for agro/forestry use, is there some alternate documentation on when a road becomes a track vs unpaved service road? What would be the guidelines one would give to a completely new mapper in the area?
