Hi. I see you've been adding ski trails, such as Crystal Link #3 in this changeset, but without any highway=xxxx tags. (In general, highway=path would be appropriate.)
I think lack of this tag would prevent the trails from rendering on most, if not all, maps. This example, at least, doesn't render on any of the OSM maps that I've looked at.

The reason for not tagging some of these with highway=path is that it's not always clear that they exist in non-winter contexts. Many ski trails are groomed across open fields that are *not* paths in summer, so it doesn't seem correct to tag them as such.
I only have reliable data (GPS traces from grooming machines) for the winter uses and haven't wanted to assume that there is anything actually there at other times of year. In some cases it's obvious (GPS data I have follows existing mapped roadways).
It's a bit of a tricky case - many of the trails also have different names in winter - which should be rendered on the OSM map tiles?

Interesting; I hadn't thought of that angle. And clearly it must be rendering on *some* map (a piste map maybe), otherwise why would you be doing it?
An idea: If satellite imagery shows the area to be forested, as in this example, wouldn't that suggest, at a minimum, a swath through the trees that would count as a path in summertime?
My own opinion (for what it's worth): you could safely tag even a ski trail across a meadow as a path, given that (in this area at least) we have plenty of mountain routes mapped as paths but with no evidence of such on the ground. An obvious route up a ridge to a summit, for example. (For that OSM has trail_visibility, but it isn't used much it seems.)
I'm just hoping to make your work available to more people... Cheers.

PS, I haven't seen the different-names-different-seasons situation yet, but I'll take your word for it. I don't have a good answer for that. :)

I know of two places where these trails show up (i.e. focus on the piste:* tags):
https://skitrails.info/, which is my site, and also
https://www.opensnowmap.org/If you find trails you think are also summer paths, feel free to add the appropriate highway=path tags. I'll keep an eye out for them as I do more mapping.
The most common case where the summer name differs from winter is for forest service roads that get groomed for skiing - in summer, they're often things like "Access Road 293", but in winter, it's more like "Grizzly Bear Trail". Not always, but it's not uncommon.

SkiTrails is right: if there is no highway=path, why should you tag it it? And if in doubt, don't. More than often X-country ski pistes runs just on the side of a track or take shortcuts through meadows.
