This looks very like a mechanical edit. Did you discuss it beforehand as per http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct ?

1. I didn't know this page. Will stick to it if I ever make automated edits (which is quite possible). BTW, link to talk list on the page doesn't work for me.
2. I have just checked tha automated changes register and it seems to contain only regular automatic changes by bots.
3. This was not done by a bot. I've used Overpass and JOSM.
4. I have tried to find reasoning behind shop=pharmacy and haven't found any.
5. there was about 250 of shop=pharmacy scattered all over the world. It doesn't look like intentional difference from wiki (amenity=pharmacy), rather like an error. So I've proceeded to correct it...
6. With Overpass it is possible check what has been changed and revert it any time. I will check if someone reverses the change in a month or so, then discuss it with this person. A least - this was my idea of finding if there is a reason for shop=pharmacy I couldn't find beforehand. -

It's always tricky where there are overlapping concepts. Confusion in the area of amenity=pharmacy has been noted before several times, including https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2009-May/036621.html , http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Tag:amenity%3Dpharmacy#Why_amenity.3Dpharmacy_and_not_shop.3Dpharmacy.3F and also on that page at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Tag:amenity%3Dpharmacy#Distinguish_from_shop.3Dchemist . Note that in English "pharmacy" and "chemist" have some potential overlap, and also note that http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/shop=chemist has 15k uses worldwide. It's probably true that your 70 changes here may have been better tagged as something else, but as what?
An automatic change from one tag to another misses the opportunity to engage with the previous mapper of the "wrong" tag, to explain the problem and help them not use the wrong tag again. It also removes the chance for other local mappers to see the issue (a strange tag) and look for other potential problems nearby or by the same mapper.
By the way, the "talk" link from http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct works for me (from the English page, at least) and the page does say that it covers "use of find-and-replace functionality using a standard editor such as JOSM or using an XAPI service where the changes are not reviewed individually". You could argue what "reviewed individually" means of course; in the case of an obvious misspelling (perhaps "highway=pirmary") that isn't part of a systematic error on the part of a mapper there's no harm in "just fixing it". However here it misses the chance to explain to new mappers how they can find out about tags that other people are using (using http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org ) and answering any other questions that they might have. -

The link to talk list is working for me now. so it might besomething temporary.
I've read the links you have provided and there is only once a question why amenity and not shop. With no answer and no argumentation for shop.
As for letting mappers learn... Yeah, you are right. But consider, that we don't know if the mappers who put shop=pharmacy are still editing or even reading messages. I can see a point of teaching when someone just made a mistake (where just==not long ago ;) ) so that he/she avoids the mistake in future and I can try when checking for shop=pharmacy next time - I will know then that the mistake is fresh ;) .
