Hi Jo, what a lovely surprise to get a message from a real person! I just looked at your profile and wow, you really have been busy! You must be an expert by now.
As you might have seen I only started contributing a couple of weeks ago, after seeing an article in the UK's 'Saga' magazine, which is aimed at retired people. It was entitled something like "how to change the world from your armchair". I've always been interested in maps and I thought this would be an interesting hobby.
Although I found it rather confusing at first, I think I'm getting the hang of it, thanks. One thing I did notice on a project in Haiti which I was looking at, until I switched my attention to Swaziland, was that a lot of the rivers had been previously added by someone else, but were not quite in the right place, compared to the image of the countryside on the screen. I was wondering if I would be allowed to change them, and if so how, or whether in fact the original map was more correct and somehow all the buildings I was adding were themselves not in quite the right place.
What country are you in? I live in the UK (in Exeter, in the south west) but at the moment I'm in Portugal.
Thanks once again,
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,
I saw you start on a task on the Tasking Manager, but not complete it. Then I noticed that you were new to OSM, so I decided to write you a welcome message.
I'm trying to pass on my experience to others, using twitch.tv:
http://www.twitch.tv/polyglot_openstreetmapNever mind the obnoxious publicity, it's a platform for gamers. On the one hand it suits the purpose of making screencasts, otoh pubs for wargames are not really what we're about.
I'm using an offline editor called JOSM. To use it, you need to have Java installed. If you are serious about mapping, I'd suggest to learn how it works, it's a lot more efficient than iD.
With those screencasts, I'm trying to show some techniques and which hotkeys are most interesting.Jo
