Hi digitto,
I think you're right, I used Bing in this very case. I had a look at both in this region and they seem to have a somewhat different placement, SITR imagery is place a couple of meters west-south-west relative to Bing.
Do you know which one is more accurate / reliable in Sicily/Italy in general?

It depends from the zone. And the aerial imagery changes over years, with variable misalignements.
Without checking any survey points ("punti fiduciali e vertici IGM") the best way (for what we concern in OSM) is to check against GPX data, if the area is well covered.
In the area of Trappitello I can see bing and SITR overlap very well. And they match very well with GPS traces.
Usually in mountains/hills areas bing sucks.
SITR is more reliable.
Absolute precision is not important
SITR is easier to use. can be obsolete as bing can be
