Hi, I think something has gone wrong with this series of edits. This is a pub beer garden, not a German style biergarten.
According to the wiki https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity=biergartenTo be clear, a biergarten is not the same as (what is known in the UK as) a "beer garden", i.e., an outside area associated with a pub. These are not biergartens in the Southern German sense and may be tagged as a beer_garden.
It is important to understand what the mapper intended and not assume they have mistagged an object.
Please revert this and other similar mechanical armchaired edits.
Thanks Phil -

Hi Phil, it seems that this is a private tag by single users. on this planet are only 25 beer_garden, see https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/amenity=beer_garden
Also the OSM wiki tells both should be tagged as "biergarten" or pub (not beer_garden", see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:amenity (search for beer)
Please follow the OSM wiki or start a discussion to introduce a new value for amenity. OSM can only exist, if users agree on common tags (which are described in OSM wiki).
Many regards, Alex -

Hi Alex
There is no such thing as a private tag, OSM allows a user to add any tag they wish. Those with a small number are unlikely to be rendered but a mapper is free to use any tags, this one is pretty well accepted in the area where it is used and describes a beer garden. Maybe the tagging can be improved, but that is one for the UK community.
This is certainly not a biergarten as found in Germany, to tag it as one is misleading. Normally the wiki should be taken with a very large pinch of salt but in this case the wiki for Biergarten, https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity=biergarten, explicitly says this as I quoted originally
To be clear, a biergarten is not the same as (what is known in the UK as) a "beer garden", i.e., an outside area associated with a pub. These are not biergartens in the Southern German sense and may be tagged as a beer_garden.

Hi trigpoint,
I changed it back. I searched for
way(user:"Aleks-Berlin")["amenity"="biergarten"]({{bbox}});
bbox=over Bristisch Isles, no node or rela found.
You can verify here.

Hi trigpoint, as a frequent visitor of
"biergarten sensu stricto" aka Bavarian Biergarten I'm just curious - what are the characteristic features of a pub beer garden?
Cheers

He said: read https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity=biergarten
But it is a philosophical question if the garden beside a pub (in UK beer_garden) is something else a german biergarten (which has typically a pub beside). The one is the garden of a pub, the other the garden with an attached pub. Of couse all have some exceptions, and even inside germany the shape of a biergarten is not identical. I think the OSM wiki should be discussed again (and improved) to simplify the understanding. KR, Alex -

The wiki in this case is fairly clear. But some people, even in Bavaria ;) are not aware of the strict definition:
Necessary characteristic of a "biergarten" is that you are allowed to bring your own food. That is why many so-tagged amenity=biergarten" even in Germany qualify only for outdoor_seating=yes.
