Please read the OSM naming conventions (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Names) Names should be always in the predominant
local language. The most important thing is that local people can use it in there daily lives. Many people in Mauritania cannot even read and write, and if they can, they can only read and write Arabic.
In Germany names are also in German, even if in English more people could understand them. In China they are also in Chinese, in Georgia they are in Georgian, with Georgian alphabet.
Since in Mauritania the nearly only used language is Arabic, they have to be in Arabic. Also, according to taginfo.openstreetmap.org, Arabic is more used on OSM than French.
