Hi Northisland
FYI where pubs have external land the pub details are tagged on the perimeter boundary. This is similar scheme to schools/hospitals etc. -

Hi DaveF. I am confused as I find pubs as buildings everywhere around (Bristol, Bath, BradfordOnAvon). Wiki: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dpub says: "establishment that sells alcoholic drinks that can be consumed on the premises"; "beer_garden=yes - The pub has a garden where customers can sit outside"; "outdoor_seating=yes - The pub has outside seating, possibly café-style". They are only a business with a garden outside, a bit like hotels, cafes etc. Hospital says "Draw an area around the grounds" (because it is usually many buildings?) - wiki Pub does NOT say this. Did your scheme come from before buildings were commonly drawn? Regards Mike

Hi Mike
If a pub is just a building then the tags should be placed on it, but if, as in this case, it also includes a car park & garden or even multiple buildings then it's more accurate to map a boundary polygon around everything owned by the pub. "beer_garden=yes" & "outdoor_seating=yes" are still valid tags. I would map cafes & hotels with similar features in the same way. I wouldn't take wiki pages as gospel; many were written when the likes of pubs were mapped as just a node. With the ability to zoom in further being introduced, it allowed more detail to be added, hence the pub as drawn now. The schema came after buildings were more commonly drawn.
