The reference I used was from Haddenham museum, page 23 of one of the Haddenham Chronicles. The relevant paragraph reads "Pond Close was actually the name of the field but it is has always been used as the name for the pond, though locals often call it ponnie." No one that I'm aware of refers to it other than by the name ponnie. Happy to forward on an image of the page to which I took the reference.
