Comment from Hjart
Converting to footway is probably smarter than adding bunches of foot=yes & bicycle=no tags

Hi Hjart,
path is the right way type here IMHO, see the wiki pages[1], [2].
After thinking about it, I suppose the foot=yes tag is redundant, so I'll remove it.
There are signs attached to the gates which prohibit mountainbike riding, so the bicycle=no tag is justified here, IMHO.

Where exactly does the wiki say that path would be correct here?

Hi Hjart,
a footway is a way primarily and exclusively used by pedestrians (sidewalks, footpaths designated with a traffic sign).[1]
A path on the other side is less specific in it's definition and covers a lot more usages, including hiking trails[2].
There are several pages in the Wiki which cover the footway vs. path discussion. The hiking trails page[3] and the "Path Examples" page[4] have some examples including photos of tagging footway vs. path. After reading these pages I think it's obvious that highway=path is the right choice here.

These paths are exclusively used by pedestrians, right? Hiking trails are exlusively for pedestrians, right? Apart from that, please note that the wiki was created by ordinary mappers like you and me, who didn't always agree on how to things and that parts of it, including sections relating to highway=path, as a result is pretty fucked up.

Hi Hjart,
I agree, this is a never-ending discussion which is going on for years already. I think we can agree that the goal should be to provide as much consistency in tagging schemes as possible.
With this in mind, I think your change from path to footway made the tagging more confusing in this case.
Most hiking trails in the area are tagged consistently as "path", except the handful of ways you just changed.
If you take a look at other areas in the world you would notice that the differentiation between path and footway is more and more implemented as described in the Wiki. While written by the community and people like you and me, the Wiki still provides a quite consistent guideline for tagging in the most cases these days.
Some similar ways were even changed by you in the direct opposite direction from footway to path some time ago[1] … ;-)

Yes, I used to change footway->path, but with increasing experience I have changed my mind about it...
