My work has gone down the tubes!!

Posted by Vic Jacinto on 8 August 2010 in English.

I have been working on mapping my city of Bucaramanga for about 2 + years using actual traces. Today i went to do another neighborhood and noticed a lot of streets and roads have been added by a a guy called "Gallor". My streets have been moved off my track lines and most of his work has no labels. I cant tell where he is getting his data. I don't think it is tracks. Can someone help figure what this guy is up to. The work i have done is /was very accurate and the maps work perfectly on my Garmin. HELP!

Location: Comuna 6 - La Concordia, Bucaramanga, Metropolitana, Santander, RAP Gran Santander, Colombia

That looks like he's traced off badly aligned Google maps (completely illegally).

Talk to the data working group (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Data_working_group) and they should place a block on him and talk about it.

Vic, email the person. welcome him to OSM and note that he has altered some of your work. Offer to assist him, and remind him that tracing from google is not permitted.
Don't start altering anything to 'before' status yet, some people can do automated reverts but if you haven't had a chance to explain to him he will be upset too.

Apart from the need to contact the user, here is more information as how to revert back stuff:

I'm having similar issues with NE2 right now, except he keeps reverting it to bad data and is not cooperative in coming to the table to discuss the issue, and comes off as nothing short of a monster online.
