A cow made of corn

Hello, I run mapwarper.net it just requires that you have the permission to upload the image.

For tracing into OpenStreetMap if you are tracing from it it does requires that it be suitably licensed, but mapwarper.net doesn’t have any explicit license requirement, just that the user be allowed to upload it, and of course share with the internet.

Mapping for Open Historical Map

Hello,

welcome to OSM and also OHM!

There is a mailing list that is the primary way of getting help. This is at https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/historic

The list is quite active and you can find good discussions there on a wide variety of things.

There is also an IRC channel on #ohm at irc.oftc.net which may give quicker assistance, but there’s only a few people there at the moment.

Cheers,

Chippy.

About Me

Hello Zuppet, welcome to OpenStreetMap!

Excited to Say, I am a Presidential Innovation Fellow

Congratulations!!

DuckDuckGo Places now uses OpenStreetMap!

Mapbox gets the visible attribution.

OSM gets attribution ONLY if you click the tiny “i” button.

Seriously mapbox - stop this.

Attributing OpenStreetMap

I think this is hiding the attribution from the map.

Mapbox and you should not be recommending this collapsed control as the recommended way for attribution. Whilst it can be argued between lawyers what a violation is and is not, I think it’s pretty clear to most mappers that it is against the spirit of the license and the OpenStreetMap project.

OpenStreetMap Isn't All That Open, Let's Change That and Drop Share-Alike

If only people were having this discussion when the license was being proposed, worked on and voted about…. if only we could go back! Sorry, that was a bit sarcastic, but it’s about hindsight.

So, I think they actually were having this discussion and looking back anyone can see that the OpenStreetMap community overwhelmingly decided to adopt the ODbl license. Contributors even had to explicitly agree upon it! Those who disagreed formed FOSM - based on cc-by-sa. There was no public domain fork. Why was this? Why didn’t the community choose another way then?

So what’s changed now from the times that the community were having the discussions? What are the situations that mark the differences between then and now? Who are the people speaking the loudest, then, and now?

UserTools JOSM plugin fixed

How rectify NASA EOL Images with free tools and OSM shape?

You could try uploading the image into http://warper.geothings.net and rectifying the image, then within JOSM tracing over and making your map.

UserTools JOSM plugin fixed

ahh sorry, version 13055 is the version of the usertools plugin.

LS16 8DU is wrong

welcome barry!

I'm in Leeds too, and were going to have an OSM social (cake and beer) in Janauary somewhere in Leeds!.
Sign up to and keep eyes peeled to the mailing lists (talk-gb and talk-gb the north) :)

You shall map the longest street in the village with … a herring!

Hey there this -> "(This is only updated weekly around Wednesdays.)" is wrong :-)

There are two main openstreetmap renderings / layers shown on the openstreetmap site. Mapnik (default, updated weekly) and Osmarender which is updated upon a change, or forced to change and usually shows a change after around 3 hours, sometimes a bit longer, and sometimes a bit shorter, depending on queue / clients etc.

So now you can do some pointing out a few times every day! :-D

New user, Lots to do

Hi JanneM,

have a look at www.openstreetmap.jp - there's lost of information, a good mailing list, and there are also some people who live in Osaka who map, including some folk from Osaka city university, where this springtime we did a little openstreetmap mapping party.

I think Osaka would benefit from another party! :)

Ibiza, next city almost done

It would be a great place to have a weekend mapping party to fill in the gaps on this island. Easily accessible from most of Europe, lots of accommodation, and interesting nightlife!

Missing functions on OSM website

Peer, you should add each request onto trac. trac.openstreetmap.org :-)

Good ideas.

Grindelwald, CH

have fun! It's a lovely place. The little bits I did were done by foot, and it is quite mountainous!

Leeds Micro-mapping session last Sunday

it was a good afternoon! I've put up a little animation of the traces (apart from Paul's) that we did.

The East of Leeds looks much much less empty now. It has made a good start.

Agreed to all your Lessons Learned :). Plenty of notice and publication enables those from further afield to come, and enables folks to book time off etc. It's worth travelling to places to be able to talk with like minded folks on the same subject, and to map and see another place. Often with weekend mapping parties, folks travel from one, and then when their home area has one, help could be reciprocated.

Use upcoming, facebook etc to spread the word, publicize & gauge numbers for food drinks, booking curry house, if necessary - Sponsorship is also not uncommon. The project also has a number of GPS units available for use (and a very cool banner), but these need to be booked in advance.

Tracing time does take a while, and so I think it may be best done after the event, but it is very good for there to be some time for folks to be able to compare notes, see where you went, get tips, make a start etc.

Chipping Norton

glad to make it on the map ;)
