Hi LogicalViolinist,
could you please point me to the posting on Imports and Talk-ca mailing list according to the Import Guidelines (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Import/Guidelines&oldid=1186549 – that's the guideline in the version valid at that time)?
Where is this import documented?
CC-BY 4.0 is not compatible to our licensing scheme by default. Gatineau.ca/donneesouvertes Could you please point me to the written agreement of city of Gatineau that the naming them as a source at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/Contributors is sufficient?
Best regards
Michael

Hello Michael, you can find this information by yourself I have officially quit contributing to OSM this agreement dates back to 2013. Have a nice day.

Thany you for your quick response. It will be the reasone for me to revert this changesets in the following days. The revert will either be announced on Talk-ca list beforehand or performed by DWG themselves.

Thank you for the link to the wiki page. But where is
1. the entry in the Imports Catalogue (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Import/Catalogue&oldid=1359164),
2. the discussion on Talk-ca mailing list (I have searched the archive from January to August 2015 and not found any discussion) and
3. the discussion on the international Imports mailing list?
In addition, the email by city of Gatineau does not say that listing them on the Contributors page meets the attribution requirement of CC-BY 4.0 license. (I used Google Translator because I do not understand French.) https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/ODbL_Compatibility

Are you daft? I just told you this dates back from 2013. Also using google translate for a legal acceptance, should not be a practice to maintain

Comment from LogicalViolinist
Also I was not aware of the import catalog at the time. I will add it later today.

I cannot post the request sent to them as it was through a contact form and is in french, which you wouldnt understand anyways. I had asked them if adding them to https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/Contributors
Was sufficient. I also added them to the source because it's the right thing to do. -
Comment from LogicalViolinist
I also ran the text in google translate and it gives nothing remotely intelligible:
We attribute to use and import our addresses in the OpenStreetMap project only if you give us the award as a data source.
Regards,
Gatineau's Communications Department
-------------
Really? "give us the award as a data source." and you are going to use that as a basis for legal obligations? -
Comment from Nakaner
Hi LogicalViolinist,
why should the data be distributed under a license which only requires an attribution of OSM, not of the City of Gatineau if nobody can tell us if the city is ok with the lacking attribution at every usage of their data (because our data users only attribute OSM, not the city additionally)?
I had a look on the subjects of the archives of Talk-ca and Imports mailing list of whole 2013 and did not find a posting about an import in Gatineau. Did I oversee it?
I will ask for comments about all these issues on Imports or Legal-Talk mailing list in the next days.
Best regards
Michael

As I've said: I had asked them if adding them to https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/Contributors
Was sufficient. I also added them to the source because it's the right thing to do.Their response was that it was sufficient attribution. End of story

"give us the award as a data source." is not clear enough from my point of view and therefore I will ask other people how to handle this import.
-
Comment from LogicalViolinist
This is why I told you not to use google translate. The permission is given if we give them attribution on the https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/Contributors page

Comment from LogicalViolinist
Micheal please see Données ouvertes de la Ville de Montréal which has the same license as Gatineau and is approved with the same exception(give explicit permission).

Michael please see:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Gatineau/Import#Follow_up_permission
Which clears up any doubt you had.
This puts us on par with Montreal's open data catalog where they needed permission due to CC-BY-4.0 -

I have also added Gatineau to the import catalog here:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/CatalogueThank you for your understanding. Good day.
