Comment from Warin61
Hi again.
Shared ways. Fixed into relation.
The mapping is of the building - not the way it is constructed, nor the configuration of the roof.Any links to why you don't use a relationship to map building voids?
My reference
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Buildings#How_to_map
"If the building has an interior courtyard the use a Multipolygon relation to ensure that the courtyard is not rendered as part of the building."The tag 'levels' is depreciated - apparently OSM now uses 'building:levels=*'

Multipolygons can cause issues with particular roofs, etc. Whereas coincident, but non re-entrant, nodes should be OK in most practical usages. And as far as 'levels' is concerned, they could do with some consistency - since building:height is to be avoided, In this instance I was only interested in a quick refinement of the building, and levels got the job done.
In the end I'm more interested in getting better mapping of key areas than I am of some OSM view on semantic purity that seems to have no practical point. I do wish they would concentrate more on accurate, up to date maps than database nodes !
