Do also note that it's usually way better to tag footways on the residential roads than creating separate ways for them.

What I mean by tagging footways on a residential road: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/42761965

Disconnected footways like these always keep flaring up in error reporting tools like https://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/ , so we usually end up just removing them.

ahh ok. I'll have to look into it (still learning :) )

Yes, of course :-) You're welcome.

Do also note that disconnected footways are useless for pedestrian routing.

That makes sense.
When the tool is asking what side of the road the pavement is, what is this relative to? -

Every way in OSM has a direction. Not sure why you can't see this in iD (I almost always use JOSM), but the direction of the one I linked to is north.

ahh ok, cheers

Appears in iD you can only see the direction on oneway roads like https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/502197323

heh, can't make it too easy, now can we :P

iD was meant to be easy. I guess that's why it's hiding petty details like that ;-)

Oh, you can actually see tiny arrow heads midway between the nodes on i.e. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/42761967

I have changed the speed limit here to 50 km/h. This sign: https://kombiskilte.dk/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/E53-1.gif is not a speed limit, but an advisory speed. It can be added to the road as maxspeed:advisory=30. The general speed limit here is still 50 (since the road is in a residential area)
