It is not expected that you delete others mappers work.
If the road is private you just need to add an extra tag access=private and the road will rendered differently indicating it is a private road and none of the routing engines will route vehicles along it. -

I see you have not deleted anything, just added a few tags, some of which are probably unnecessary I suggest. -

It is not acceptable that private roads are erroneously mapped as public. This causes no end of problems. I have attempted to add tagging to this road to make is render as private.

Yes, it is easiest to map from satellite imagery and probably the only way to map many roads but it does result in an unfortunate lack of fine detail until a local survey is done to fully define the access, etc. I expect that most users of the OSM would assume that many of the country roads, especially in remote areas may not be publically accessable or just lead to farming residences. I fully understand that some have scant regard to genuine private property signage and is annoying to many property owners.
