Hej cartorhythm,
I would argue that the classification for highways as classified by the Road Development Authority, in this case "B16", should be somewhat used as a guideline to ascertain the OSM classification on Mauritius. B16 (and B15 aswell) don't seem to fit into the general idea of primary highways linking larger towns together. Granted some of the highways with an A ref seem to overshoot their destination and we're talking about small differences in traffic and regional significance only, which is why I'm somewhat in favor for going by already existing classification that can be easily referenced by source. And I think the RDA classifications fits most of the time. Unless you have a strong position why this would definitely be a primary of course. Let me know what you think, so far there hasn't been any documentation for MU in general, so it's nothing carved in stone but something that has clearly developed over time and is now usually the case on MU.
Best regards

Hi kartonage, thanks for letting me know about the RDA classifications! I see how it is easier to agree on classifications when everyone is following a single source. I just don’t think that the government classification will always match the overall road importance, which the wiki says OSM classification should be based off of: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:highway. To me it seemed like the B16 links larger towns just as much as the A5 or the B15. You have more local background than me so I would not be opposed if you changed it back to secondary. Again, thanks for reaching out.

The thing is, there are no larger towns linked here. Poudre d'Or & Hamlet are small villages of 4k inhabitants.
Like i said, the B15 is also probably misjudged. Secondary roads connecting primary A5 and A6 but not leading to much bigger towns or junctions. That's not really a high importance for the region. If B16 is a primary, almost all linking roads between villages/hamlets can be on Mauritius. That's not really helpful I would argue. There's actually more a case for classifying down in some places.

I see your point about the B16 and have changed it back to secondary. Since there doesn’t seem to be an agreed upon classification scheme in Mauritius I’m going to avoid changing classifications here.
