Looks like bdiscoe traced "USGS Topographic Maps" in this changeset: http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/48630877
I asked the mapped to glance at this note, an case some automated re-tracing is available.
I can assure you I did not "map" the islands in that changeset. If you look at the entire history of the features, you will see they pre-date the work I did. I only cleaned them up a bit.
This is the changeset in which they were actually created: https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/3904994 It is NHD import. NHD is based on many different sources, but generally reflects where the river was in the 1970s or before.
bdiscoe,
bdiscoe, thanks for looking into this.
I'll open a project to manually update the wetlands to match the current river configuration. The park does not extend to the riverbank because there is a cliff above the railroad track where the edge of the park stops.
MikeN: It wasn't Eagle Point Park I was talking about, it was Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. It's evidently supposed to follow the shoreline, but it doesn't.
