Geoknold

Mapper since:
August 03, 2015

Geoknold is an active geocacher, exploring cities and nature around N 56º, E 012º, in a radius of 50 km - so far, until now - occasionally also elsewhere during holiday trips. Geocaching has very often guided me to peculiar places, sometimes far from the paths.

I NEVER ..use tracks at any intervals (it either cuts corners or adds unnecessary points and thus slowing down map display) I ONLY …measure points after stopping and waiting for the navigator to stabilize and give a proper coordinate

I WISH …that fellow OSM mappers would only draw or make corrections at places, where they have actually been! I my opinion, OSM shall not reflect what a satellite image suggests - the image might very well be outdated or mis-interpreted. And OSM shall not reflect what various brochures have shown - it is not best practice to copy the errors or inaccuracies of other maps. OSM should only reflect the real-world. Being there first is a MUST!

If you should observe that some of your updates are being adjusted, don’t be mad - it’s all in the best spirit of providing an accurate map.

Oh, did I forget to tell, what that “geocaching” thing was all about? Look at the brief introduction at Geocaching.com. It’s a “game” that motivates to get out, get going, get some air - and it’s for all ages. That also gives you more out of the open streetmap. The best thing about OSM is, that it’s freely available to install on the Garmin.

EDIT DECEMBER 2017: Flash is out, and so is Potlatch 2 as well. Therefore, I have switched JOSM for updating the map. Still a little shaky, so please send a message if some blunder should occur.

Kind regards from Copenhagen.
