About Me
I have not been a mapper for long (I joined OpenStreetMap [OSM] at the end of 2017). I use to play a lot of GPS based games to satisfy my need to walk around and explore. That was until one of them made some rule changes I could not agree with. Now I find immense satisfaction in completing the OSM map, and capturing Mapillary images. My goal is to map everything around me with as much detail as I can put into.
Where I Map
My main area of mapping is my local area I live in; Which is University Place (UP), WA. This area comprises of: Tacoma, UP, and Lakewood. I could map the military base here, but figured I will leave that for others (I’m not sure what the rules are for that).
Why I Map
I don’t think any company/entity should have the right to tell you:
- Where you are.
- How you are going to get somewhere.
- And, what you will see when you get there.
These three things have proven to be a multi-billion dollar industry. OSM works to alleviate just that. And, mainly, I’m a supporter of open community projects. I think OSM fills that role.
I love exploring and finding things I have lived next to, but never new existed. This happens all the time.
